Hard Rock to mark 40th anniversary with free show in downtown Orlando

In honor of its 40th anniversary, Hard Rock plans to “rock the block” in downtown Orlando with the Hard Rock 40th Birthday Bash: The Downtown Throwdown.

On Saturday, Oct. 1, Hard Rock will mark its milestone with music on four stages in downtown Orlando. Collective Soul, Everclear, Tonic, Mike Doughty and His Band Fantastic, Matt Hires, Darryl "DMC" McDaniels of Run DMC, The Parlor Mob, locals Big 10-4, Son of A Bad Man, Plain Jane Automobile and others will perform at a free, all-day concert event.

Aspiring pop stars also can participate:

Hard Rock is asking rock stars-in-training from Orange and Seminole County public schools to submit their best rendition of any song from Hard Rock’s birth year, 1971, to win a spot on the festival bill and take home funding for their respective public schools’ arts programs.

Submissions can be sent via email to [email protected] through Sept. 27. The winning submission will kick off the festival with a mainstage slot on Oct. 1. In addition, the winning public school’s arts program will receive $10,000 courtesy of Hard Rock International. Visit for official rules and details.

Also on hand for the event will be Hard Rock’s 40th Anniversary Memorabilia Tour bus, honoring the influence of legends such as Jimi Hendrix, Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, John Lennon and Justin Bieber.
